Taylor was born in
Pensacola
Florida. Two months before his first birthday his
family moved to Ghana, West Africa to be missionaries to the Ghanaian
people.
While in Ghana, Jordan’s love for music grew as he started
learning the piano
at the age of 10. At 15 he started teaching himself guitar on his
dad’s steel
string. In 2006, Jordan and his family moved to Houston, TX
where, in
January of 2009, he started his classical guitar studies with
internationally
acclaimed guitarist Valerie Hartzell. Misha Ramirez was born in Samacá, a small town in Colombia, on October 5, 1990. In his mother's household, he grew up listening to Chopin and Beethoven as well as Colombian folk music. Thanks to his mother, he developed a deep love for music. At age 14, Misha decided that he wanted to study music and taught himself Colombian folk pieces, as well as some rock, and pop songs. At the age of 15, he enrolled into the Center for the Music and Art Studies in the city of Tunja (Pron. Toon-hah), where he studied Colombian music/guitar. He also studied piano at the Superior School of Music of Tunja for a semester, before settling on just the classical guitar. He studied classical guitar in Colombia for six months until he moved to the U.S. with his father. In 2008 Misha met Valerie Hartzell and due to his family
situation was forced to wait an entire year before starting lessons.
In March of 2009, Misha moved in with Jordan Taylor's family and
then fulfilled his dream of taking classical guitar lessons with
Valerie Hartzell. Misha received a scholarship for the
'Classical Minds' Guitar Institute and Competition. There, he had a
master class with William Yelverton, and private lessons with Elliot
Frank.
In May of 2010 Misha performed the first movement of the Guitar Concerto in E by
Boccherini/Cassadó with the Cy-Springs Orchestra. Misha is
currently
studying with Dr. Andrew Zohn at Schwob School of Music, Columbus State
University. He received a full scholarship from the Preparatory & Continuing Education Department to study music theory and composition at Moores School of Music, University of Houston with Joel Love from fall of 2009-spring 2010. He has performed at the Art & Wine Show in Wharton in October 2010, performed in a master class for legendary classical guitarist Eliot Fisk, and has had master classes through the guild on scholarship with Andrew Zohn, Ernesto Tamayo, Randall Avers and Benoît Albert. Andrew Smith, graduated with honors from Cypress Woods High school and received both an academic and music scholarship to attend Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. Andrew started his classical guitar studies in 2009 but in 2010 he joined Valerie Hartzell's private studio. At the 2010 'Classical Minds' Guitar Institute and Competition he studied with both Mary Akerman and Frank Koonce. He will return as one of the Student Assistants to the 2011 'Classical Minds' Guitar Institute and Competition. In July of 2010, Andrew had the opportunity to attend the ChamberArt Music Festival in Madrid, Spain where he performed in ensembles at the 'Ateneo' Theater, the Calatravas Cathedral, the Nicolas Salmerón Culture Center and the Museo Romantico. |
